Frequently Asked
Question's
Does a doula do medical exams?
No, a doula is not trained to provide any type of medical care.
My husband is a great coach, do I still need a doula?
Yes, it can be hard for someone who loves you to remain objective, calm
and somewhat removed from your fears and discomfort. For these
reasons, a laboring mother needs a doula to help her and her husband cope
with the labor.
I am having a cesarean, do I still need a doula?
Yes, a doula will explain step-by-step what is going on during the
surgery, she will help relieve any ill feelings resulting from
having a c-section, she will
stay with the mother while the father goes with the baby to the nursery,
she will help establish breastfeeding, and more.
I plan on getting an epidural, is that against a doula's beliefs?
No, while I encourage natural childbirth, I know that it is not the
right choice for every woman. I will provide you with the
information so that you can make an informed choice as to what kind of
pain relief is right for you. I will support you in what ever decisions
you make.
What does your fee include?
I provide you with 24 hour phone support. Two prenatal and one
postpartum visits. I am on call for two weeks before your due date
up until the birth. I will attend the labor and birth and stay for
as long as you need me afterwards. You will have the use of my
birth ball, rice socks and books. And I will help you with
breastfeeding. If you have other needs let me know
and I will try to accommodate them.
